Kalki 2898 AD box office collection day 27: Prabhas’ blockbuster just Rs 20 cr away from passing Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan India record | Telugu News
Kalki 2898 AD box office collection day 27: Even with the release of major films such as Shankar’s Kamal Haasan-starrer Indian 2, Sudha Kongara’s Akshay Kumar-starrer Sarfira and Anand Tiwari’s Vicky Kaushal-starrer Bad Newz, the epic sci-fi film Kalki 2898 AD continues to hold its ground and has minted good money even on its 27th day in theatres.
On Tuesday, Kalki 2898 AD registered an India nett collection of Rs 1.77 crore, which is about 7.27 per cent higher than its Monday earnings, according to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk. With this, director Nag Ashwin’s Prabhas and Deepika Padukone-starrer has surpassed the Rs 620 crore mark in the domestic market. It is now just Rs 20 crore away from overtaking director Atlee’s Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan’s lifetime India nett collection of Rs 640 crore. However, Kalki’s earnings on Day 27 were lower than what Jawan made on the corresponding day, Rs 2.05 crore. With highly anticipated films like Deadpool and Wolverine hitting the screens this week, it remains to be seen if Kalki can maintain its momentum.
At the same time, although Kalki crossed the Rs 1,000 crore mark globally 11 days ago, it has yet to reach the Rs 1,100 crore milestone and this delay is dampening the makers’ hopes of climbing higher on the list of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time. Nevertheless, since July 13, when it joined the elite Rs 1,000 crore club, Sacnilk reported that Kalki has added Rs 56.65 crore to its India nett, surpassing Siddharth Anand’s Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan’s lifetime collection of Rs 1,055 crore, thus becoming the sixth highest-grossing film. However, based on current trends, it is unlikely that Kalki will surpass the global gross of Jawan (Rs 1,160 crore), which currently holds the fifth position.
On Tuesday, Kalki’s 2D version achieved an overall occupancy rate of 12.68 per cent in the Telugu market. The morning shows started with a 10.98 per cent occupancy, which increased to 13.43 per cent in the afternoon. Though the occupancy rate dipped slightly to 12.40 per cent in the evening, it peaked at 13.91 per cent at night. At the same time, its 3D version recorded an overall occupancy rate of 11.66 per cent.

Meanwhile, after becoming the second highest-grossing Indian film in North America last week, Kalki further improved its collection there and has reached $18.2 million. The only film ahead of Kalki now is SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which reportedly earned $20.77 million.
Besides Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, Kalki also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan in key roles. In her review of the movie, The Indian Express’ Shubhra Gupta wrote “Kalki may have Prabhas as the headliner, but it is Amitabh Bachchan all the way — his Ashwatthama is suitably gravelly and towers over the film. Kamal Haasan comes on sparingly but does leave an impact.” A sequel to the film is in development.
